Casey Carter

MA, LMHC

Clinician

Casey is a daughter, sister, auntie and friend. Meaning “brave” in Gaelic, Casey often wondered if she was named incorrectly because she walked with so much fear for so long. In 2015, after a particularly rough period, Casey realized how fitting her name was: bravery is not the absence of fear but the presence of fear and “doing it anyway”. This is one of the main tenets of her life and she’s gathered many tools to take care of herself and others as a result. Casey’s style has been shaped by mindfulness-based therapy, existential therapy, client centered, feminist therapy, and integrative therapy.

Though she has been trained in many modalities, a heart-centered, mindful perspective directs all aspects of her work. Casey will guide you to observe your internal experience from a non-judgmental place of awareness, revealing your obstacles to change and the possible solutions within you. She also offers mindfulness skills and relaxation training as a significant adjunct to therapy. Casey loves working with folks from all walks of life. She values looking at individual symptoms through a societal lens so the burden can be shared in community, rather than held in isolation. Casey has a consistent anti-racist practice which helps her move more skillfully when working with areas of race, power, and privilege. She enjoys working with issues such as anxiety, PTSD, depression, grief/loss and communication struggles. She has a heart for those adjusting to life’s changes and experiencing isolation and questions around purpose, moral injury or isolation. Casey is competent in, and loves working with, LGBTQ populations as well.

Casey is an Iraq veteran and served five years in the United States Army. She loves dancing, biking, and laughing at herself. She enjoys being outdoors, meditating, and being a decent human being, even when it takes work.
